LunaRead (“App”) is operated by LunaRead Team. LunaRead provides users with a digital fiction reading experience and is committed to handling user information responsibly.
This Privacy Policy describes what information we collect, why we collect it, how it may be used, and the measures we take to protect it when you access or use the App. By using LunaRead, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this Privacy Policy.
2. Categories of Information We Handle
2.1 Information You Provide to Us
When you use LunaRead, you may provide certain information directly to us, including:
Account information: username, email address, hashed password, and optional profile information such as reading preferences.
Social sign-in information: if you register or log in through Google, Apple, or Facebook, we may receive basic profile details such as your name and email address.
Payment-related information: purchase history and billing address. Payment processing is handled securely by Stripe, a PCI-DSS compliant payment service provider.
Reading and user-generated content: bookmarks, reading progress, comments, and stories uploaded by users. User-uploaded stories are encrypted while stored.
2.2 Information Collected Automatically
We may also collect certain information automatically when you interact with the App, including:
Device information: operating system version, device model, IP address, and advertising identifier, which can be reset in your device settings.
Usage and performance data: chapter completion rates, use of App features, and crash reports collected through Google Analytics for Firebase.
Cookies and tracking technologies: session cookies used to maintain login status, and aggregated analytics data collected through Amplitude.
3. How We Safeguard Your Information
We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect user information from unauthorized access, loss, misuse, or disclosure.
Encryption: user-uploaded stories are protected with AES-256 encryption, and data transmitted through the App is protected using TLS 1.2 or higher.
Access management: employee access is limited based on role-based permissions, and security reviews are conducted twice each year.
Vulnerability reports: security researchers may report potential vulnerabilities by contacting contact@lunaread.net.
4. Eligibility and Age Limits
LunaRead is not intended for children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from users under 13.
For users located in the European Union or the United Kingdom, the minimum age for using the App is 16, unless valid parental or guardian consent is provided in accordance with applicable local laws.
If we become aware that an underage user has created an account or provided personal information, we will remove the account and related data within 72 hours.
5. When Information May Be Shared
We do not sell personal information. However, we may share information with selected parties when necessary for operating, securing, or legally maintaining the App.
Cloud infrastructure: Amazon Web Services (AWS) is used to store encrypted story data.
Customer support: Zendesk is used to manage support requests, and support ticket records are retained for 90 days.
Legal obligations: information may be disclosed when required by valid legal processes, such as court orders or lawful requests from competent authorities.
Business changes: if LunaRead is involved in a merger, acquisition, restructuring, or similar transaction, user data may be transferred as part of that process. Users will receive 30 days’ advance notice where applicable.
6. Why We Use Your Information
We process personal information only where we have a valid reason to do so. The purposes of processing include:
Providing the App’s main functions: syncing reading progress across devices and recommending stories based on user preferences.
Improving the reading experience: reviewing anonymized reading patterns to improve content discovery and recommendation systems.
Protecting the platform: identifying fraudulent accounts, misuse of the App, or potential copyright violations involving user-uploaded stories.
7. Storage Locations and Cross-Border Transfers
User data may be stored or processed in the United States and Germany. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we apply appropriate safeguards, including:

Standard Contractual Clauses, also known as SCCs, when required by applicable law.
8. Choices and Rights Available to You
Depending on your location and applicable law, you may have rights regarding your personal information, including:
Access and export: you may download your reading history by going to Settings > Privacy > “Export My Data”.
Correction and deletion: you may update your profile information in the App or request account deletion by emailing contact@lunaread.net. Deletion requests will be processed within 14 days.
Analytics opt-out: you may limit analytics or advertising tracking through your device settings, such as “Limit Ad Tracking” on iOS or “Opt out of Ads Personalization” on Android.
9. How Long We Keep Information
We retain personal information only for as long as necessary for the purposes described in this Privacy Policy, unless a longer retention period is required by law.
Active accounts: data is retained while the account remains active, unless the user requests deletion.
Inactive accounts: accounts that remain inactive for 24 months may be purged.
Legal and transaction records: payment transaction records may be archived for 7 years to comply with tax and accounting requirements.
10. Updates to This Notice
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, such as introducing new categories of data sharing, we will notify users through in-app notices or email at least 30 days before the changes take effect.
11. Governing Language
This Privacy Policy is provided in English. The English version is the legally binding version, and any translations are provided for convenience only.
